Trust me– it’s not a crappy tour!

London is home to 9.6 million people who experience the luxury of “flush and forget”. They don’t worry about where their poo goes. In order to live in such a large city without the daily smells of sewage wafting by, you must have a good sewer system. This was established by the Victorians and it constantly being improved as population increases.

But how did the Romans wipe their bottoms? What did the medieval peasants do when they needed to go to the loo? Why do we call it a loo? All of this and more will be revealed on the London Loo Tour. You didn’t think there was anything interesting about the development of a sewer system until you discovered THIS tour!

Travel through time with your qualified London tour guide and dig down into the pits of poo to find out more than you can imagine. Your guide will lead you while carrying a toilet plunger, naturally! This is so you don’t get lost, but also, to allow you to enjoy the strange and amazed reactions of passers-by as she tells you how London deals with its everyday waste.

“Pull my finger” and play the interactive game of fart names. You’ll walk away with all kinds of new vocabulary on how to claim your farts, and you’ll be able to analyse your droppings to reveal what changes in your diet you might need to make. This tour has it all: a little bit of medical, alot of history, and buckets of laughter.

Make no mistake, this isn’t a joke tour at all. You are NOT going to hear lame toilet humour, but instead learn about real people, real moments in history, and real facts about things related to toilets, farts, poo, pee, and more! Everyone who takes this tour is impressed, and also walks away a little more appreciative of the humble toilet!

The tour is fully accessible for wheelchairs, strollers or other mobility devices , but some locations have steps that cannot be avoided. We can alter the route to meet your mobility needs, thus you can still enjoy this tour. Please notify the guide at least 24 hours before the tour begins. Suitable for adults and children of all ages. Available for private hire upon request. Please book your space in advance, as walk up spaces are not be available.

  • I was skeptical at first about the concept, but could not have been more wrong. Within minutes of the tour, I was laughing, while also learning fascinating facts about London's sanitation history. Amber was a fantastic guide -- her enthusiasm was infectious and you could immediately tell how much she loves the city and giving these tours. It may sound like an odd topic, but this unexpected tour became one of the highlights of our trip.
