Remember, Remember the 5th of November!

On the 5th of November in 1605, a man was found in the chambers below the Houses of Parliament. He stood there with 36 barrels of gunpowder. To commemorate this foiled plot, King James I declared that celebrations be had each year. We haven't stopped this commemoration.

Join me on this interactive and engaging tour to learn all about the Gunpowder Plot. Step back in time to understand the complexities between the Catholic and Protestant believers, meet the men behind the plot and how they were each involved. Learn about Robert Catesby, the mastermind of the group, and how he roped in 12 other friends, relatives and colleagues to arrange such a scheme.

Who was Guy Fawkes? Did he act alone? What was he trying to do? This fun and informative walk takes you on a stroll through the central government buildings of London, explaining as we go some of the more memorable events of the 17th & 18th Century.

Be part of the conspiracy as you learn who's who in 1605! Understand why it was so important to keep the secret, and what would happen when the plot was a success. Additionally, we learn how a King lost his crown (and his head), how an Admiral enjoyed a drink or two after his death, and how the greatest plot to destroy the government was foiled and avoided.

This walk is approximately 2 hours and is suitable for families and prams/strollers/wheelchairs.

  • I organised the Gunpowder, Treason and Plot for our WI group. Having been on her Loo tour, I recommended doing a tour with her to our group. Amber did not disappoint. When all 28 of us met Amber, she was dressed in costume which made such a difference! Amber was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, bubbly and made the tour fun by getting us all involved. I thought I knew quite a bit about the Gunpowder Plot but she delved into the background which led up to the plot and what followed. I definitely learnt something new. The whole group had a fantastic time. Not only would I highly recommend Amber, I am planning on organising another tour with her. Thank you for our fantastic day out.

  • A charming tour and a great interactive way for kids to learn about the Gunpowder plot! My 8 year old son thoroughly enjoyed it. He went back to school and told his teacher some facts even she didn't know.

  • Our group was only about six, but we all managed to play our role in 'the plot' and it was still a great time. I thought itt might not work with a small group, but Amber made it happen!
